Gov Fintiri Flags Off Electric Mobility Initiative, Unveils Plan to Empower Adamawa Youths

The Adamawa State Governor, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has officially flagged off an electric mobility initiative aimed at transforming transportation and creating sustainable economic opportunities for young people across the state.

The event, held at Mahmud Ribadu Square in Jimeta, marked the commissioning and rollout of electric tricycles assembled within the state, signaling a major shift toward clean and affordable transportation.

Governor Fintiri announced that his administration will procure 1,000 electric tricycles for distribution to youths at subsidized rates. The move, he explained, is part of deliberate efforts to reduce the overdependence on Premium Motor Spirit (petrol), cut transportation costs, and improve the livelihoods of residents.

He emphasized that the initiative aligns with his administration’s “Fresh Air” agenda, which prioritizes youth empowerment and economic inclusion. According to him, the partnership with private sector players, including Sparrow Mobility Limited, is already delivering results, with locally assembled electric tricycles now creating jobs and boosting industrial activity in the state.

The governor further disclosed that over 6,000 households across various local government areas have already benefited from solar energy installations, reinforcing the state’s commitment to renewable energy and sustainable development.

In her welcome address, the Commissioner for Transport Development, Wunfe Anthony, described the initiative as a game-changer that will significantly reduce operational costs for tricycle operators while easing transportation challenges. She added that the collaboration between the ministry and its partners is driving innovation and improving economic productivity.

Delivering a keynote address, the Group Chief Executive Officer of A4&T Company, Ayodeji Ademilua, revealed that his team conducted an assessment visit to Adamawa in May 2025, which led to the partnership with the state government. He noted that electric tricycles represent a pathway to sustainability, affordability, and long-term economic growth, while commending Governor Fintiri for fostering an investor-friendly environment.

Also speaking, the Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency, Dr. Abba Abubakar Aliyu, disclosed that mini-grid projects with a combined capacity of 35 megawatts have been developed across the state, with more underway. He attributed these achievements to the governor’s strong commitment to energy access and infrastructure development.

In separate remarks, representatives of organized labour and state agencies, including Dr. Barth Nyalas of the Nigeria Labour Congress and Muhammad Tukur Abbo of Adamawa Sunshine, praised Governor Fintiri’s leadership, describing him as transformative and people-focused.

The event featured the commissioning of the electric tricycles, as well as inspection visits to the company’s operational site at the Federal Housing Estate in Girei Local Government Area and the solar energy farm at Modibbo Adama University, Yola.

The electric mobility initiative is expected to not only modernize transportation in Adamawa but also position the state as a leader in clean energy adoption in Nigeria.
