First Lady Remi Tinubu Donates ₦500m, Relief Materials to Adamawa Flood Victims

The Adamawa State Government has received ₦500 million and other relief materials from Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, to support victims of the recent devastating floods in Yola and other parts of the state.

The donation, which targets no fewer than 1,800 affected households, was presented during a condolence visit on August 5, 2025. Senator Tinubu, represented by Nana Shettima, wife of the Vice President, also delivered food items to other vulnerable groups across the state.

Deputy Governor Professor Kaletapwa Farauta received the cash donation and materials on behalf of the state, describing the intervention as timely and a boost to the hopes of vulnerable individuals. She assured that the support would be distributed fairly and transparently to the intended beneficiaries.

The flood disaster claimed 29 lives, destroyed homes, and displaced thousands of residents. Nana Shettima noted that the ₦500 million cash support, along with food and non-food items, was intended to cushion the impact of the disaster and aid recovery efforts.

Managing Director of the Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa), Dr. Ubom Udoh, said the gesture reflected a shared vision of restoring hope and building resilience among Nigerians.

The visit also featured the launch of a Women Economic Empowerment Programme in partnership with the Tony Elumelu Foundation, aimed at providing small business recapitalisation grants to 500 women in Adamawa State.
