Warns Defaulters of Arrest, Prosecution, and Cost Recovery
The Adamawa State Government has issued a strong warning to political actors and the general public, reaffirming its total ban on the indiscriminate posting of posters on government structures and public facilities across the state.
In a press briefing, the Honourable Commissioner for Environment, Mohammed Sadiq, made it clear that the directive is not new and compliance is mandatory, especially as political activities begin to intensify ahead of upcoming elections.
According to the Commissioner, the government has recently observed a disturbing resurgence in the defacement of public property, with posters reappearing on critical infrastructure such as flyovers, bridges, street poles, road signs, schools, and hospitals.
He stressed that such actions are unacceptable, describing public infrastructure as a reflection of the people’s collective investment and pride, which must be protected at all costs.
The government outlined a series of firm measures to ensure strict compliance:
There will be zero tolerance for violations, with enforcement intensified across all parts of the state.
The directive applies to all political parties, aspirants, supporters, and organizations without exception, as the government insists there will be no sacred cows.
All illegally placed posters must be removed immediately, as relevant agencies have been mandated to begin statewide inspections and clean-up operations.
Defaulters will face arrest and prosecution, with the government ready to apply the full weight of the law against violators.
In addition, offenders may be required to cover the cost of removing illegal materials and restoring any damaged public property.
The government further advised political stakeholders to restrict their campaign activities to approved and designated spaces.
The Commissioner emphasized that the directive goes beyond maintaining cleanliness, noting that it is about upholding law and order, environmental responsibility, and respect for public assets.
As the political season gathers momentum, the government urged all stakeholders to act responsibly and within legal boundaries, reiterating its commitment to maintaining a clean, orderly, and dignified environment across Adamawa State.
