FG Calls for Stronger Federal–State Synergy as NEDC Commissions Key Projects in Adamawa

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with state governments to accelerate infrastructure delivery and improve the living standards of Nigerians.

The State Minister for Regional Development, Hon. Uba Maigari, made this known in Yola while superintending the commissioning and inspection of projects executed by the North East Development Commission (NEDC) across Adamawa State.

Maigari emphasized that sustainable development can only be achieved through a shared vision and effective coordination of resources between federal and state authorities. He noted that the projects commissioned align with the statutory mandate of the Commission and support President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes critical infrastructure as a driver of economic growth and improved welfare.

“These projects were carefully designed to improve access to quality education, healthcare, empowerment opportunities, potable water supply, shelter and good road networks,” the minister stated.

He added that Adamawa is the third state visited in the current phase of facilities inspection and commissioning, following similar exercises in Bauchi and Gombe States.

The commissioning ceremony was attended by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the NEDC, Mohammed Goni Alkali, members of the Board of Directors led by Major General Paul Tarfa (rtd.), and representatives of the Adamawa State Government, including the Head of Service, Pharm. Isah Shehu Ardo.

In his remarks, Alkali stated that the Commission consistently prioritizes projects with direct community impact. He expressed satisfaction with the quality of work delivered by contractors and urged residents to safeguard the facilities to ensure long-term benefit.

Projects commissioned during the tour include the Mega School in Guyuk, the rehabilitated Skills Acquisition Centre in Guyuk, a 1.1-kilometre road linking staff quarters and the academic arena at the Federal College of Education, Yola, and a 1.5-kilometre General Paul Tarfa Road in Garkida, Gombi Local Government Area.

Also commissioned were the newly constructed Government Secondary School, Garkida, and the water scheme upgrade for the School of Nursing and Midwifery in Yola.

Other projects inspected during the three-day tour include the ultra-modern Accident and Emergency Complex and a state-of-the-art Magnetic Resonance Imaging facility at the Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital, the Skills Acquisition Centre in Mayo Belwa, and the upgrade of selected primary healthcare centres across the state.

Officials noted that the interventions complement the efforts of the Adamawa State Government in strengthening educational and healthcare infrastructure, enhancing service delivery, and supporting recovery and stabilization efforts in the North-East.

The joint inspection and commissioning exercise underscores the sustained partnership between the Federal Government, the NEDC, and the Adamawa State Government in advancing long-term development and rebuilding communities across the state.
