In a major step towards boosting digital capacity and innovation, the Adamawa State Government has formalized its collaboration with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) for the establishment of a state-owned Digital Academy at the Digital Bridge Institute (DBI) Yola campus.
This collaborative achievement was made possible through the dedicated efforts of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Hon. Auwal D. Tukur, following a series of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) signed between the Adamawa State Government and the NCC. The development received full approval from His Excellency Governor Fintiri, who has prioritized ICT as a cornerstone of the state’s development strategy.
The DBI campus, which features air-conditioned hostels, administrative offices, a modern auditorium, fully equipped ICT labs, a cafeteria, and other essential infrastructure, will now serve as the Adamawa State Digital Academy. The academy is expected to play a pivotal role in building digital skills and improving the state’s digital economy.
Present at the handover were top government officials including commissioners, permanent secretaries, and members of the Adamawa ICT Working Group. The private sector was also represented, including officials from Trust Data Compliance Ltd.
Representing the Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, Mrs. Hauwa Buba Wakili, Head of Digital Skills and Services, commended the state for its proactive digital transformation agenda and reaffirmed the Commission’s readiness to support Adamawa in advancing inclusive, impactful innovation.
Mr. Adebisi, Head of Infrastructure and Development at NCC, gave a technical overview of the DBI facility and expressed optimism that Adamawa will maximize the infrastructure to train youths and civil servants in digital skills that will position the state as a tech hub in the region.
In his acceptance speech, SSG Hon. Auwal D. Tukur expressed gratitude to the NCC for the handover and reiterated Governor Fintiri’s vision of repositioning Adamawa “from basic to digital.” He stated that the facility will serve as the central training ground for the Adamawa Digital Academy and a hub for youth empowerment through digital literacy and innovation.
Special Adviser to the Governor on ICT, E-Governance, and Policy, Dr. Hammajam Ahmed Adamu, presented an overview of current digital initiatives including the Adamawa Digital Academy—which has enrolled over 11,000 learners—and partnerships with Microsoft and other global tech giants. He highlighted how the state’s investments in digital governance, platforms like e-Adamawa.gov, and broadband infrastructure are enhancing service delivery and job creation.
The event concluded with a tour of the facility, a photo session, and remarks by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Hon. Iliya James, who praised the Governor’s digital vision and emphasized the government’s commitment to making Adamawa a model for digital transformation in Nigeria.
With this milestone, Adamawa State sets a new benchmark for public-private collaboration and digital governance, signaling a brighter, tech-enabled future for its people.
