Governor Fintiri Bags Outstanding Sports Development Award From SWAN

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, CON, of Adamawa State, has once again earned national recognition for his progressive leadership this time from the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), which honoured him with an award for Outstanding Contributions to Sports Development in the state.

The award was presented at the Government House, Yola, by Mr. Austin Ajayi, SWAN’s National Welfare Secretary, as part of activities marking the Association’s 60th anniversary celebration. The recognition underscores Governor Fintiri’s deliberate investments and reforms aimed at revitalizing sports in Adamawa State.

Receiving the plaque, Governor Fintiri expressed appreciation to SWAN, describing the award as “heartwarming and inspiring.” He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sports as a key driver of youth empowerment, peacebuilding, and national unity.

“This award is a testament to our administration’s deliberate investment in sports development. It strengthens our resolve to do even more. Sports remain a veritable tool for youth engagement and national cohesion, and we are determined to harness that potential,” the Governor stated.

He highlighted ongoing projects under his administration, including the construction of a modern stadium whose first phase is nearing completion. “Upon commissioning the first phase, work will commence immediately on the second. Our vision is clear to make Adamawa a hub for sporting excellence and a beacon of hope for young talents,” he assured.

Other distinguished award recipients from Adamawa State included Engr. Nimrod Musa, Chief Solomon Kumagar, Chief Justin Madugu, OON, Head Coach of the Super Falcons, and Madam Victoria Tadawokai, the pioneering female SWAN Chairman and National Officer.

Governor Fintiri’s recognition by SWAN goes beyond mere decoration it represents a clear validation of his administration’s policy of using sports as a strategic instrument for youth empowerment and social transformation.

Under his leadership, Adamawa’s sporting infrastructure is being rebuilt, new opportunities for young athletes are emerging, and the state’s reputation as a growing center for sports excellence continues to rise.
