As Governor of Adamawa State, I am a staunch advocate of true federalism and firmly believe that local governments should have full autonomy. This should be pursued through appropriate constitutional means and amendments, supported by two-thirds of the State Houses of Assembly.
I urge the federal government to emulate this by granting states their rightful share of federal allocations, as opposed to the nearly 52% deduction currently witnessed. This equitable distribution of resources will empower states to better manage their affairs and drive local development.
Moreover, the federal government should demonstrate transparency by separating the office of the Accountant-General of the Federation from that of the federal government. This distinction will foster rapid development and ensure accountability at all levels of governance.
True federalism is essential for the prosperity of our nation. By implementing these measures, we can build a more balanced and transparent system that promotes growth and development across all regions.
