The Upper Benue River Basin Development Authority (UBRBDA) has issued a flood alert for Jimeta and Wuro-Bokki following steadily rising water levels recorded as of 12:00 p.m. on Monday, August 11, 2025.
In its latest bulletin, the Authority reported that:
- Wuro-Bokki: Water level stands at 6.69 metres, surpassing the First Alarm mark by 0.19 metres and rising steadily toward the Second Alarm threshold.
- Jimeta: Water level is at 5.71 metres, exceeding the First Alarm by 0.21 metres and edging closer to the Second Alarm stage.
The UBRBDA warned that both stations have been recording continuous rises since this morning, driven by upstream inflows and persistent local rainfall. If the upward trend continues for the next 12–24 hours, Second Alarm levels signalling a severe flood threat could be reached.
Residents of low-lying and riverbank communities downstream have been urged to prepare for possible evacuation. Emergency agencies and local authorities are also advised to remain on high alert and activate readiness measures immediately.
“We are now in the critical window. Continuous monitoring and swift response are essential to safeguard lives and property,” said Dr. Mahmud Sanusi Mohammed, Managing Director/CEO of the UBRBDA.
