Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, CON, has met with the newly appointed World Bank Country Director for Nigeria, Mr. Matthew Verghis, in Abuja, in a high-level engagement aimed at strengthening development and stabilization efforts across the North East.
Governor Fintiri was joined by Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, forming a united front to push for deeper international support for communities rebuilding after years of insurgency.

During the meeting, Governor Fintiri emphasized the need for World Bank projects to remain focused, practical, and impactful particularly in areas still grappling with the long-term effects of displacement, infrastructure loss, and weakened local economies. Discussions centered on scaling up intervention programmes, improving coordination mechanisms, and ensuring accountability so that resources reach the people who need them most.
He reiterated that sustained investment in reconstruction, livelihood recovery, education, and basic services is essential for restoring stability and confidence across Adamawa and the wider region.
The engagement signals a renewed partnership between the North East governors and the World Bank, with Mr. Verghis expressing readiness to strengthen collaboration and deliver programmes that directly improve lives on the ground.
