ADHA Sets August 12 Hearing on Bill to Amend Emirs, Chiefs’ Appointment and Deposition Law

The Adamawa State House of Assembly Adhoc Committee has scheduled a public hearing for Tuesday, August 12, 2025, on a bill seeking to amend the Adamawa State Emirs and Chiefs’ Appointment and Deposition Law, 2024.

According to the Committee’s Secretary, Barr. Hassan Aminu, the hearing will hold at the Barr. Ahmed Ali Gulak Committee Room, Assembly Complex, Yola, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

The amendment bill, transmitted to the Assembly by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, proposes to empower the Governor to appoint a prince from the ruling houses to serve in an acting capacity when an Emir or Chief is incapacitated, until such a leader is able to resume office.

The session aims to enable the ad-hoc committee, constituted by Speaker Rt. Hon. Bathiya Wesley, to gather inputs from relevant stakeholders across all Emirates and Chiefdoms in the state before the legislation is finalized.
