In a significant move towards fostering economic growth and facilitating smoother trade, the Adamawa State Government has taken the lead in establishing an environment conducive to doing business on major trade routes leading to Southern destination markets. This initiative aims to streamline and enhance the trading activities of State merchants and traders transporting goods to prominent markets in the South.
A pivotal meeting took place on January 23, 2024, where the Secretary to the State Government engaged with representatives from Navara Security Limited, renowned security consultants specializing in the ease of doing business, ADAS Programme Limited, and the ADAS Programme State Implementation Committee.
The primary agenda of the meeting was for the “Committee to Reconnoiter Market Trade Routes” to present its findings and provide a comprehensive overview of its assignment to the Secretary to the State Government. The committee’s mandate was to assess and reconnoiter market trade routes, specifically focusing on evaluating the ease of doing business for State traders and merchants transporting their goods to major Southern destination markets.
To fulfill its assignment, the committee collaborated with relevant government bodies and security agencies in Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Abia, Enugu, and Ebonyi States. Additionally, the committee explored transit routes through Taraba State and Benue State, ensuring a comprehensive assessment of the entire trade network.
Looking ahead, the committee is poised to operationalize modalities for partnerships, collaborations, and support. The goal is to ensure that all stakeholders, including traders, merchants, and security agencies, reap the benefits derived from establishing a conducive environment for doing business along these vital trade routes. This proactive approach by the Adamawa State Government reflects a commitment to fostering economic growth and reinforcing the state’s position as a strategic player in regional trade dynamics.
