On Monday, November 11, 2024, Adamawa State marked a major step toward its digital transformation goals as Broadband Connectivity Network (BCN) launched the rollout of a carrier-neutral fiber optic cable network. This ambitious project, which commenced after Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s approval and ceremonial site visit, aims to provide high-speed internet access across Adamawa, fostering a digitally inclusive environment in line with the Adamawa 2.0 strategy.
Governor Fintiri’s recent approval of a Zero Right of Way (RoW) fee played a pivotal role in catalyzing this project, removing a key barrier to broadband infrastructure development. With the Zero RoW policy in place, BCN is set to establish an extensive, open-access fiber network that will serve mobile operators, businesses, government institutions, and homes. This new network is expected to enable improved digital services, support economic growth, and increase access to essential resources for residents throughout Adamawa State.
At the launch event, Governor Fintiri highlighted the transformative potential of the BCN fiber project. “Our goal is to create a truly connected Adamawa State, where high-speed internet is accessible to everyone, from our educational institutions and healthcare facilities to local businesses and families,” he stated. “The Zero Right of Way initiative is one of the strategic steps we have taken to encourage private investment in digital infrastructure.”
BCN’s carrier-neutral fiber rollout represents a major advancement for Adamawa’s telecommunications landscape, as it allows various service providers to access the infrastructure, fostering competition and providing greater connectivity options to the public. The rollout also aligns with the broader objectives of the recently signed Adamawa State Information Technology Development Agency (ASITDA) Bill, a legislative effort designed to promote digital inclusion, enhance e-governance, and support ICT infrastructure development.
BCN’s CEO expressed gratitude for the state’s commitment to creating a digital-friendly environment, remarking that this fiber network rollout will significantly improve access to education, healthcare, e-commerce, and digital services. The network will bridge the connectivity gap, enabling economic development and empowering citizens to engage fully in a digital economy.
The launch of BCN’s fiber optic network, spurred by the state’s forward-thinking policies, is a key milestone in Adamawa’s journey to becoming a leader in Nigeria’s digital economy. With Governor Fintiri’s proactive measures encouraging private investment and enhancing digital infrastructure, Adamawa is poised for a new era of connectivity and opportunity.
