In a strong show of commitment to national digital security and inclusive technological growth, the Adamawa State Government has reaffirmed its dedication to the protection and development of Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII), following its active participation in the ATCON Strategic Stakeholders’ Meeting held in Abuja on August 15, 2025.
Dr. Hammajam Ahmed Adamu, Special Adviser to the Executive Governor on ICTs, E-Governance, and Policy, who led the Adamawa delegation at the high-level summit, declared that the state is fully aligned with the Federal Government’s Executive Order designating telecommunications infrastructure as critical to national security and economic stability.
“Adamawa State is not only committed, we are ready to act,” Dr. Adamu stated. “The era of indifference to the vandalism of telecom facilities must end. These infrastructures are lifelines for education, healthcare, banking, agriculture, and governance. We will work closely with federal agencies, service providers, and local communities to ensure their protection.”
The landmark meeting, organized by the Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON), brought together ICT Commissioners, Permanent Secretaries, and agency heads from all 36 states, including the FCT, to chart a unified course for implementing the CNII framework nationwide.
During the summit, Adamawa pledged to:
- Establish a State-Level CNII Coordination Committee under the Ministry of ICT.
- Collaborate with security agencies to prevent sabotage of telecom masts, fiber optic cables, and data centers.
- Sensitize local communities on the socio-economic value of telecom infrastructure.
- Fast-track policy reforms to attract telecom investors into underserved areas within the state.
Dr. Adamu emphasized that protecting digital infrastructure is essential for bridging the digital divide in rural Adamawa. “When a mast is destroyed, it’s not just a company that loses, it’s students who can’t access e-learning, mothers who can’t reach emergency health services, and farmers who lose market information. This affects real lives.”
He further announced plans to initiate a public awareness campaign in partnership with network operators and traditional leaders, aimed at curbing infrastructure vandalism across the 21 Local Government Areas of the state.
The Adamawa State Government also affirmed its readiness to provide logistical and administrative support for ongoing and future collaborations with federal bodies and private sector stakeholders in the ICT space.
This proactive stance positions Adamawa as a key player in Nigeria’s broader digital transformation agenda, reinforcing Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s administration’s vision of a technologically empowered, secure, and prosperous state.
