The Adamawa State House of Assembly’s Adhoc Committee on the Bill for a Law to Establish the Information Technology Development Agency (ITDA) Law, 2023, engaged stakeholders in a crucial discussion on the merits of the proposed bill during a public hearing held on Monday.
The event, declared open by the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Bathiya Wesley, saw the active participation of numerous stakeholders who expressed support for the establishment of the ITDA in the state.
Rt. Hon. Bathiya Wesley highlighted the necessity of embracing digital transformation for the progress of the state in an era of rapid technological advancement. He emphasized the significance of ICT compliance in all ministries, developments, and agencies, noting that it would enhance productivity and service delivery in the state. The Speaker commended Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for prioritizing ICT and creating a conducive atmosphere for investors.
Addressing the stakeholders, Rt. Hon. Bathiya Wesley stressed the commitment of the state government to empowering youths for self-reliance, and he called for collaborative efforts in shaping the future of technology in Adamawa State.
Hon. Ahmed Jingi Belel, Chairman of the Adhoc Committee, expressed gratitude to stakeholders for their inputs, emphasizing the importance of their contributions in establishing the agency. He pledged the assembly’s readiness to collaborate for the promotion of ICT in the state.
Hon. Kate Raymond Mamuno, representing Demsa constituency, urged stakeholders to provide relevant inputs to ensure the bill stands the test of time.
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Auwal Tukur, represented by the Permanent Secretary Political, Ibrahim Buba, commended the assembly for organizing the event and expressed confidence that the inputs from stakeholders would guarantee the sustainability of the agency.
Dr. Ahmed Hammajam, the Special Adviser to Governor Fintiri on e-Governance, conveyed gratitude to the assembly for organizing the event and Governor Fintiri for proposing the bill. Dr. Hammajam expressed confidence in the assembly’s effectiveness in handling the bill and reiterated the governor’s commitment to positioning Adamawa State as a digital competitor among other states like Lagos.
